Abraham Lincoln and Steven A. Doublas

On the evening of April 23, 1863, there was another séance in the Red Room of the White House. This time, Charles E Schokle served as the medium. A reporter from the Boston Gazette, Prior Melton, also attended and published a story of what occurred.

The highlight of the evening was when Schockle went into a trance, and Steven A. Douglas, the Democratic candidate for President whom Lincoln defeated, addressed the attendees.
