Rev. Carl Hewitt demonstrated mediumship for over 40 years through readings, radio and TV shows, and seminars. Through word of mouth, people had traveled to seek his counsel from all parts of the United States and as far away as Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, and Kenya. His readings went beyond bringing loved ones through and often discussed health and many other types of guidance.

Rev. Hewitt grew up in Shallotte, North Carolina, a small rural, coastal community. Before Carl’s birth, psychic events began happening to Carl’s parents and 10 brothers and sisters. Unfortunately, Carl’s family was terrified of these “strange happenings” because their Baptist beliefs made them think the devil was after them. Throughout his childhood, Carl was shunned because the mediumistic events that occurred around him were misunderstood in the strong Baptist community. Although he was born with the Gifts of the Spirit, Rev. Carl Hewitt’s career as a medium began when he was 23 years old. A friend invited him to a meeting where a medium lectured and delivered Spirit Messages. This medium described Carl’s life and informed him that he could be the messenger or telephone between the two dimensions of life. One day, he would stand before large audiences, delivering Spirit messages.

In 1974, Carl was ordained a minister. In 1977, he founded the Gifts of the Spirit Church, where he served as pastor. Between 1979 and 1981, Rev. Hewitt was repeatedly interviewed, and his life story became the basis of the NBC movie The Gifted One. Rev. Hewitt has taught audiences throughout the United States about mediumship and the Gifts of the Spirit.

After leading the church for 25 years, ascended masters urged Carl to move to Charleston, SC, to open a new center called The Healing Temple of Yeshua ben Joseph. The center’s goal is to teach the Gifts of the Spirit and be an active center for healing. Unfortunately, Carl’s health deteriorated, and he transitioned to the Spirit World before establishing the new center. Spirit has selected Sidney Schwartz to continue Carl’s mission.
