A medium is the communication link between a spirit and physical person. It is the medium’s goal to prove:
- that life continues after death
- the identity of the Spirit communicator.
The only way to prove a Spirit’s identity is through evidence: information that the sitter knows (or can research) and the Spirit. In other words it would be information of which the medium would have no knowledge.
Many people become confused between a medium and a psychic, because, a medium can often work on a psychic level. Furthermore, many Americans seek mediums to learn of their future. It is easy for a medium to work as a psychic, however, most psychics cannot work mediumistically.
What types of information is Evidence?
There is a long list of topics that proves a Spirit’s identity. When I studied at the Arthur Findlay College of Mediumship, in Stansted, England, several lists of topics were compiled as types of Evidence to prove a Spirit’s Identity. I have complied this list from several of these sources:
Spiritual Evidence
- Is the Spirit a
- Name
- Relationship
- Family – Blood tie
- If grandparent, which side of family?
- Friend
- If work colleague, what job?
- Location of where they lived
- Urban/Rural
- Type of house
- House/Apartment/Condo
- Description of rooms
- Grounds/garden
- Physical Description
- Age
- Height
- Build
- Hair
- Distinguishing Features
- Posture
- Gait
- Clothes
- Jewelry
- Personality
- Occupation
- Interests/Hobbies
- Past – Information that happened before Spirit’s passing
- Present – Information that happened since Spirit’s passing
- Cause of passing
- Medium will usually feel this in his/her body
- Knowledge during and after passing
- Other Information that can be checked
- A Message- Not Evidence
- Information that can NOT be checked
This list is very extensive, and, naturally if all of this information were given at one sitting, it would definitely be overkill. It is essential for a medium to provide sufficient evidence (such as contained in this list) to convince the sitter that he or she is, beyond a shadow of a doubt, in communication with the specific Spirit. For example, if the medium claims that Aunt Martha is sending love, the sitter must be convince, through pieces of evidence that Aunt Martha and the sitter knows. If the medium talks about the time that Aunt Martha and the sitter were baking cookies, and a dozen fell to the floor, or describes Aunt Martha’s funeral flowers, or that Aunt Martha died from a sudden heart attack, the sitter now knows that Aunt Martha is there and communicating.
For those of you who wish to see a fantastic evidential medium, watch Lisa Williams on her TV show Lisa Williams: Life Among the Dead on the Lifetime channel. She has a show at 900 p.m. on Friday evenings. As she does her readings she provides names, relationships, past and present memories. She feels how the Spirit passed. She also has taken on the Spirit’s personality and acts using the same mannerisms as the Spirit.
As you watch the intense emotional responses of Lisa’s sitters to the evidence that she presents in her readings, you will be watching the REAL mediumship. The sitter comes away as a changed person. Perhaps the sitter now has closure about their loved one’s passing. Sometimes there death is clouded with questions, especially with accidental deaths, suicides or murders. Lisa’s evidence is so conclusive, that when the spirit explains the circumstances of his/her death, it provides clarity. Other sitters feel comforted that life continues after death, and their loved one is “watching over them” from a higher dimension. Often grieving loved ones, have their grief greatly diminished after having a sitting with an evidential medium.
Words of love, and encouragements from spirit are indeed warm to hear, but the power and strength of those words are magnified 100 fold, if they are proceeded by enough evidence to establish the Spirit’s identity.
It is important for everyone to understand the role of evidence. Now when you have a reading with a medium, you will have some specific tools to use to analyze the quality of the information that you will receive.
